Best Purchase Ever
Hi guys! I tried to come up with a review title which really sums up the whole review into just a few words, and the example given by the website, 'Best Purchase Ever', is just what I was looking for.
I'm an audiophile, and love good sound quality when it comes to any kind of stereo equipment or headphones I use. I've always used arond-ear headphones for listening to and creating music, so I demand the best quality I can afford and find. After years of going through around-ear headphones by different manufacturers searching for superior sound quality, around a year ago I saw a sleek-looking pair of headphones at an expert hifi-shop, the AKG K 530. I used them for several months, and loved them, so I just had to find out what the high-definition headphones from AKG sounded like. I ordered the best pair of headphones I've ever had, a pair that made me speechless, aside from one word: WOW. This pair was the AKG K 242 HD. I tested them immediately, and my hifi-audiophile-mind was blown by a quality of sound I could've never dreamed of before seeing the letters AKG on the side of these headphones. I've used the K 242 HD's for several months now, and am astounded not only by the mind-blowing sound quality, but also by how comfortable the headphones were! After several months of usage at home, at school, in the bus during long trips etc. they haven't worn out at all! I've stopped running around hifi-shops, as I had found what I'd been looking for in the form of AKG's K 242 HD's: superior sound quality, with a sleek design, supercomfortability and endurance of the highest grade.
I highly recommend these headphones for anyone looking for an outright awesome pair of headhphones with spectacular sound quality and comfortability!

Wow
Hi guys.
First of i always used to listen to my Ipod nano 3d gen. But this summer it didn't manage to survive all the rides to school and back home on my bike. So i went for a new pmp (a Cowon J3)
But with this new pmp i wanted to buy myself a new set of headphones. Started looking on the internet and i found out that AKG was one of the best brands you could buy. And eventually with my budget i went for this one, the AKG K242 HD.
When i received it with the mail i wondered what it would look like for real. Because the package didnt really weight as much as you would expect it to.
So inside the packageing i found a very nice looking box. And an even better presented K242 HD inside :)
My first impressions were: WOW.
No that im getting used to them (i've always used earbuds from ipod and some in-ear things) i am really glad i bought these over some other headphones.
The build quality is so high :). And the sound is jaw dropping. (if you have high quality files on your pc) I personally really like the looks of it as well, but a friend of mine doesnt really like the light colours used(like i care :P).
So overall these are some really expensive headphones, but you really get some quality for that.
It really does eehm how do you say that... It is way better than i could have ever expected it to be.
Regards,
Ruben 17 from Holland :)

Amazing comfort and clarity
I'm no audiophile, so don't expect this review to be really accurate, it's just about what I think about the headphones.
First off, these headphones are amazing. Very light weight, despite the huge size. Portability is probably a no-no because the earcups are so big, they actually clamp on to your chin when you rest them on your neck, and the cord is 10 feet long. But I still use them when I'm traveling.
Speaking of portability, these headphones can go up to a sufficient volume without an amp, even on my PSP (which can't go very loud). But you should note that everything sounds better when properly amped. You will notice a stronger and punchier bass, but nothing too heavy like a ghetto blaster bass.
Sound quality is great. I'm loving the semi-open sound. I hear sounds coming in every direction. When I close my eyes, I can imagine the places on a square planar where the sounds are coming from. Everything is clear and crisp. Bass is present and everything is not muddy at all.
I highly recommend these headphones, but I had to drop a star on design because the cord seems too long for something AKG considers a headphone that can be used for mobile uses. Also, these headphones WILL make low bit rate songs sound really bad. If you have low bit rate mp3's, just buy something else. I'm glad that I only have a few low bit rate songs :)

To make it short, buy it! It's a very solid and comfortable headphone providing a very clean, neutral and detailed sound. The only problem about this is that CDs with bad sound quality sound as bad as they are ;).
I've had it for half a year now and it still looks like it did out of the box, although I definitely don't treat it very carefully.

A New Classic
This is a great new take on the k240 legacy. Far and away the most balanced headphones available at this price point and suitable for studio and home use alike. This set of headphones is suitable for anyone in the market for accurate sound.
